When it comes to styling, or decorating, you want the pieces to work together with the larger items in a room. There are some tried and true pieces that will work for any space.

The list below will give you my go-to list of what to purchase if you get stuck. We wont’ tackle how to assemble these pieces together (maybe that will come in the form of a post on a later date) but for starters, think of these pieces as an opportunity to bring the space to life and enhance the larger furnishings or overall design so that it will work with what you already have.

These small details are incredibly important when styling any space, and will be the thing that makes a good design become a great design!

So, if you’re in need of a handy list to know what to look the next time you’re on the hunt, you’re in for a treat.

Here’s the list

In no particular order, here’s my top 14 list of accessories and decor pieces that can be used to style any space.

#01 – Decorative Tray

A tray will anchor your space and help you contain your decor pieces. They come in an endless plethora of colors, shapes, sizes, and materials. I use them to add texture and depth when styling a space. On top of using them to just look pretty, they also come in handy as a functionally clever way to contain papers, loose articles, and anything lose that you may want to contain.

#02 – Lamp

A single lamp, whether it’s on the floor or a table will give the room instant ambience that’s needed to make the space feel cozy and inviting.

#03 – Plants

Every space needs a little greenery. It’s true what they say about bringing the outside in.

#04 – Family Heirloom

Add a small treasured piece like your grandmother’s jewelry box or a photo of your family to make your vignette more personal.

#05 – Accent Pillows

Accent pillows are a fun and easy way to warm up any space. They’re also one of the easiest ways to change. They’re low-commitments but ground the room and make it feel cozy all at the same time.

#06 – Rug

Rugs are also one of the easiest styling elements to change in a design. They pack a good design and style punch to any space and can do a lot of the heavy lifting when you want to make a space feel more comfortable and livable.

#07 – Books

Books, whether you actually read them or not, are one of those multi-purpose pieces that every space needs. You can use them as risers to sit other objects on, use them to add texture, or as an art installation. The uses are endless when it comes to styling with books.

#08 – Candles

A once necessary way to see in the dark, candles bring a warmth and nostalgia that brighten up any space. If you’re not into scented candles, or if you tend to shy away from open flame candles, there are many flameless candle options on the market right now (and they look beautiful)! Check out THESE remote controlled wax look flameless flickering taper candles. Everyone is raving about them!

#09 – Throws

Incorporate a throw to give the room a more casual, lived-in feel. Not only is it a great way to show function, but a great addition to change out as the seasons change to make things feel fresh again. HOT TIP: I like to use my great-grandmother’s quilts as a way to bring in something old.

#10 – Vase and Flowers

A vase and floral arrangement, whether with real or faux stems, will bring any space to life. This is another great way to freshen things up throughout the year as the seasons change.

#11 – Coasters

Again, coasters are another practical accessory that not only serves as a decorative piece, but is also very functional. Use these to show a little bit of your personality in the space or to create a conversation piece.

#12 – Decorative Bowls

With all shapes, sizes, and materials, you can use decorative bowls in a variety of ways when it comes to styling any space. They’re the best fit for using on any surface to help it feel more stylish, but practical all at the same time.

#13 – Framed Art

Of course the old classic way to decorate a space had to be on the list. With the variety of options on the market for frames, you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for and if not, you can have it custom-made at any local or online framing-company. #14 – Sculptures or 3-dimensional art

This can be anything from a clock to a paperweight. Something that has function or something that doesn’t. It’s there to serve as a way to tell a story and balance out the objects all around it.

What will you try?
